Character Information
Character Name: Enda Konrad (And Harvey)
Fandom: Enda and Harvey the breakout
Source: wikipedia page, And The game has it's own wiki
Character History: We first meet Edna when he wakes up in a padded cell having had all her memories erased. As such Edna's history is hard to piece together, it is given to us in bits and pieces as she recovers her memories with the aide of Harvey, sadly the pair of them are very unreliable narrators.
Edna's childhood
What we do know is that when Enda was a child she lived with her father Mattis Konrad, there's no canon mention of her mother and Enda never tries to regain her memories of her which suggests there are non and that this is a single parent household. Mattis is a kind even tempered man but he goes to extremes in punishing his daughter, She's not sent to her room but locked inside, and on one flashback she was even locked in the basement.
This is most likely because Edna was mentally unable as a child, although her treatment in the asylum may have made her condition worse, as when she was a child she tried to hide the fact she talked to her toy rabbit Harvey, where as an adult she talks to him openly and even talks to other objects too.
Another thing that points to young Edna struggling to fit in is the classroom found in Edna's house, but it's unclear if she was home schooled though choice or necessity.
Edna did have one friend other than her toy rabbit Harvey, the boy next door, his name was Alfred. His father was Dr Marcel who often complained that Mattis was to soft on his daughter. It's unclear if Alfred and Edna had a vitriolic friendship or if they really didn't like each other. Or if Edna thought they had a vitriolic friendship while he thought she was a bully. All we know for sure is that Edna teased Alfred a lot, and he often tattled on her and got her in trouble.
10 years later
Edna wakes up in a padded cell with no memories, dressed in a backless hospital gown, holding a blue toy rabbit. Dr Marcel checks on her but it's not until he leaves that the rabbit, Harvey, speaks. Edna is shocked by this... for a moment before she acts upon Harvey's suggestion, breaking out of the cell. No easy task. Although Harvey says it should be, for her. That is when Harvey reveals his “power” which was to “Tempomorph” her to the past. Which was less of a power as just triggering a flashback where Edna could interact with her past and regain memories. One of the memories she regained was how she escaped out of her basement after her father had locked her in there. Having escaped from her cell and into the ventilation shaft she over heard Dr Marcel and one of the guards talking.
Dr Marcel was annoyed that even after ten years Edna always seemed to find a way to get her memories back after he'd erased them. The Guard asks if the Doctor is worried that She'd remember what really happened to which Doctor says no, it doesn't matter if she remembered, because no one would believe a crazy person, the daughter of a convicted murder. He just hatted her resistance to his treatments.
Edna is left shocked and confused after over hearing this conversation? Her father? A murder? She had to find out more! Once Dr Marcel and the guard left Edna broke out of the vent and looked around, she found pictures of a boy who annoyed her for some reason and a picture of herself with the boy, but there was something wrong, because only half of her was there. (I believe this comment is meant to imply that Harvey wasn't in the picture)
Edna also found a news article about her father confessing to murder and how she was left in the care of Dr Marcel. She finds out later that the boy who was murdered was Marcel's son, Alfred and believes that it was the Doctor who murdered him, framed her father and now wanted to erase her memory so he would never be found out. Enda and Alfred did not seem to get on as children but when, as an adult, Edna finds out Alfred is dead, she's quite upset and almost cries... while insulting his memory.
When she tried to leave the office she was almost caught by one of the guards, but Edna was fast and used Dr Marcel's Polo Mallet to knock him out and hid him in the closet. Then she tricked another guard and trapped him in a store room. However the guard at the front door caught her and Edna was escorted to recreation room and allowed to interact with the other inmates. It doesn't take Edna long to start enlisting others in her attempt at staging a break out. The Keymaster, already had a plan and talked Edna though the steps of making a copy of the Master Key so she could unlock both the back door and The Key Master's cell. Aluman, and the “Twins” Hoti and Moti were a great help repairing a broken van Enda found while Edna tried to find away to open the main gate. But despite the repair gong well they stole Dr Marcel's car for the get way. It was Keymaster who was behind the wheel... who then admitted he couldn't drive and promptly crashed the car.
When Edna came too she found herself in Nautilus
After Nautilus
I do intend to update Edna to the end of the game eventually and there are things revealed in the end of the game that are very important to Edna's character so I will continue with the game history here.
After the Car Crash Edna found everyone but the Key Master safe and well. She also found that the asylum staff were looking for her, she carefully crept into the van while they were looking for her and turned off the and break leaving the staff chasing after the van as it rolled down the hill. After that she found a church, and her father's grave. While this upset her this reaffirmed her belief that she needed to get home and look for any evidence that her father was innocent. There had to be something there, why else would the doctor keep trying to erase her memories?
Inside the church was a kind vicar who told Edna that he knew of her father's story and that he was indeed innocent, but before he could tell her more he heard someone playing the church's organ and went to investigate. He never came back. When Edna went to investigate herself she found him dead. Hanging from the bell in the church tower. The Key Master had murdered him. The man berated the girl, and told her that this is what happened when you free an insane person from an asylum. He had taken the key for the church from the vicar, and how he had a puzzle for Edna that even she couldn't solve, how to escape the church without freeing him too.
Edna rung the church bell, The Key Master threatened go and “get her” if she continued. So she played with the organ and the vicar's electric guitar, setting it up so it caused feedback, which in her mind was Harvey playing the guitar. This annoyed The Key Master enough that he put on a pair of earphones Edna had given him so he could listen to the radio instead of her noise.
Then Edna went back up to the bell tower and run the bell again. From inside the church there was a scream. The Vicar's body, tied to the bell as it was had swung so much with each ring that it had knocked The Key Master down from where he was perched on the church balcony. Edna found him down in the pews, the fall had killed him. (It's hinted in the epilogue that he may have survived, but Edna is not aware of this.)
Edna was deeply upset. She didn't mean to kill him, she thought. She wasn't sure and asked Harvey for reassurance. And for a long time, the toy didn't answer scaring Edna even more. Finally Harvey told her that it was okay, and that they should keep moving. Not knowing what else to do, Edna did so.
Her house was a mess. It was run down and overgrown. She managed to find her back door key, only for it to break. But she managed to get in though the basement window and started to explore the house as her memories started to return to her. But she couldn't find her diary. Harvey suggested another trip to her past so she could find out what happened. But the truth was a bitter pill to swallow.
Her father hadn't killed Alfred, but neither had Dr Marcel. She was the murder. Alfred had read her diary and though that found out that she treated Harvey like a living thing. Aldred grabbed the toy and threatened to rip it up while Harvey begged Edna to help him. Edna pushed the boy down the stairs and he broke his neck.
In the present Dr Marcel found Edna distort over what she remembered. And explained how her father had taken the blame to save her and had asked Dr Marcel to look after her, but the only way he saw to do this was to erase her memories and start over. He explained that he now understood that Harvey was the reason why his treatments had failed in the past and the only way to fix her was to destroy him. But Edna couldn't do it. Harvey was a part of her, and as Harvey pointed out, Dr Marcel was standing atop the stairs, just like his son was ten years ago. Edna unable to choose between doing the right thing and going back to the Asylum or killing Harvey, part of her self before allowing the doctor to destroy the rest of her so she couldn't do any more harm, Edna took the third option and returned to Nautilus again, for good.
Character Personality:
Edna's personality is chaotic, while it is clear she wasn't stable even as a child her time in her Asylum has made her worse, What may have started out as a mild personality disorder and an imaginary friend has resulted in her mind being ripped in two as she struggles to withstand Dr Marcel's repeated attempts to destroy her current personality and re-write it. As such I've split this section into two parts:
Edna: Edna is insane. But she still tries to be a nice girl... most of the time. Due to her treatments by Dr Marcel Edna still acts rather child-like, having never had the chance to truly mature. She has a child like fascination with things, something as simple as finding bubble gum will cheer her up immensely. Edna also just has to poke and prod, she loves getting her hands messy.
She's also is intensely loyal. She wanted to prove her father's innocence even before she remembered him. And when her memory of Alfred started to return she swore to make his father pay for what he did.
Edna may be uneducated having been taken out of education when she was eight, but she's still a smart girl. She is also easily bored, her methods of amusing herself are not the most pleasant, especially when Harvey is egging her on. As a child she dropped lizards down Alfred's back and even now she often talks about how fascinating she finds fire.
She's not intentionally malicious though, it is possible that if she had been allowed to mature properly she could have grown out of such destructive urges, as she's greatly upset when she finds out someone has been hurt as a consequence of her actions. She will call names and say mean things, but she will not physically attack someone unless provoked or cornered. She was hesitant to attack Dr Marcel because while while he was trying to destroy everything she was, he was doing it in a misguided attempt to help her and carry out her father's last wish.
Harvey: Harvey, while being a distinct personality by himself is still part of Edna. The more impulsive, less considerate part. He's the darker more chaotic side of Edna. He comes up with the crazy ideas, that even Edna won't act upon but can still inspire a more reasonable action. An example is when Harvey tries to suggest breaking down a wall with her head like a woodpecker, but instead Enda just knocks on the door.
He's the part of Edna that holds the memories that are to painful for Edna to carry, the part of her that wondered if her father could really be a killer. In the final flashback whenever he's not around Edna he sees horrible visions of her father killing children, these distorted manifestations of his worry vanish as soon as Edna arrives, because she refuses to accept the possibility of them being true.
He appears to feel negative emotions more than Edna does. He took a long time to reply to a shell shocked Edna after the Key Masters apparent death, and any character Edna dislikes Harvey dislikes more. However he can also deal with these emotions better, he's the one who prods Edna into motion after a shock, and to convince her to take the more extreme actions needed. It was him that told Edna to push Alfred down the stairs and to do the same to Dr Marcel. And while both could be argued as self defence Harvey looked gleeful in the game ending where Edna attacked Dr Marcel. Because unlike Edna he was more concerned about their survival than Edna's remorse.
Edna and Harvey can not survive without each other. Without Harvey, Edna would have succumb to Dr Marcel's treatments. Without Enda, Harvey, if he had control of Edna's body, would be to chaotic to function.
Powers and Abilities: Edna doesn't have any supernatural powers other than being able to wilfully cause her self to experience a flashback with Harvey's help. But she is very good at escaping, she can perfectly forge signatures and she has no forth wall. Both Edna and several other inmates perfectly aware that they are in a game.
Samples
Network: Your network sample entry should be made as if your character were posting to a public network, such as Dreamwidth. It does not have to be their first post (ie, "OMG WHERE AM I?!"), but it does have to show that the character is perfectly aware of the fact that this is something that other people are likely to see. Please avoid excessive description in [action tags] here, as one would get in video posts - we're looking for your character's voice, the one they use for talking to others. Save the internal monologues for the third person sample.
Third Person: 300 word minimum. This is the place to show your character's inner thoughts. Give us a nice third person narrative of your character doing something, plus how they feel about it. This doesn't have to be blatant "this is what my character is thinking, designated by italics!" but should rather show your character's self via their actions and interactions with their environment.
